Anyone care to talk about this one? I see people always recommend cams on 114-116 centerlines. Why not 107?

Hehe. This is going to be good.

Because most people can't build a turbo system that has a enough postitive pressure differential to allow that kind of overlap.

Honestly, worry more about the turbo system (turbo, intercooler, etc) more than the cam in a turbo motor.

There is a reason that the father of F1 motors said "Turbochargers are for people who cant build engines."-Keith Duckworth

The engine is just along for the ride when you hook a gas powered hair-drier to it. Racing with turbos is a lot like racing a Honda, amazingly they seem to go together a lot!

I will throw a small monkey wrench into the mix....

There's a documented STS twin turbo Corvette that New Era assembled and tuned which just made over 1000 RWHP... using a camshaft profile that would make some of the "gurus" from another site cry bulldung. The truth is that NO OTHER STS turbo kit, by any other performance shop has EVER hit this mark and I'm damned sure the normal "turbo cam mentality" would have killed the results.

That is true Ed, they did a killer job on that... even with 427 cubes you don't need too much stick in there

I have a turbo cam from Bret and it wasn't at 114-116.

Speaking of the "normal turbo cam mentaility" I've had way to many big names in that arena give bad recomendations on turbo cams.... but it just goes to show how even with the wrong cam they can still run well.

From what I have experienced, they have cams they use themselves and cams they sell to the public. They don't sell the good ones.

That's shady... do they do the same with the turbos? That would make more of a difference I would guess.

Hell if you want to know what cams make a huge difference it's centrifigals, they can make or break one of those cars.

So what's everyones opinion on the 02 ls6 cam in turbo apps. I have seen plenty of people satisfied with it. I am currently building a forged 6.0 turbo motor and i am planning on using an ls6 cam. i'm sure there are better cam's, but i am low on cash and i have one already.

Thats what i figure. One of my friends tells me don't worry about the cam, if you want more just turn the boost up a little more. sounds a little like ricer math to me though:notooth[1.

FWIW, I had a 235/239-114 cam (recommended as a turbo cam) in my first turbo'ed 408, and a 220/222-114 (also recommended as a turbo cam) on my second one, and the second one has better manners and runs stronger in an otherwise identical setup.

The only other thing I know about turbo cams is what I read from Corky Bell's book, where he said that msot of the time there is absolutely no reason to put anything other than a stock cam in a turbocharged engine.

What do you guys consider to be "normal turbo cam mentality"?

Shady...nah, just protecting what is working for him.

I'm pretty sure they have special turbos too. I doubt that Garrett car is using off the shelf stuff;0

Trust me once you get the cam right there is no magic voodoo in Turbo cams.
