I want to put a BDS 8-71 blower in my 2005 GTO.www.blowerdriveservice.com (http://www.blowerdriveservice.com)

They offer the blower for $4700 and the fuel injection for $3400 for all the stuff. I priced out all the components in the fuel system and it's not really that outrageous of a price compared to using a couple good $1k carbs and all the associated fuel lines and mods to make that work. But they said they want me to purchase a standalone to make it work. The only reason I see that I would need a standalone is if you can't batch fire the injectors with the stock ECU.

Expert opinions wanted.

I talked to BDS today and they said I could sequencially fire the injectors and be just fine. Problem solved. Now to just come up with $10k($8k in parts and $2k addition crap that will come up) to do this.

Why would you put an 8-71 on a GTO ?

Why not? It will make a boat load of torque and look F'n cool doing it.

Your gonna have trouble driving that blower. I hope you pull the motor and have the crank keywayed.

I was actually thinking about just using two crank pinning kits.

That is not going to cut it. I got a p1sc car here making 10 lbs of boost and sheered a double pin setup. A 8-71 will have 2x the parsitic drive requirement for the boost you are aiming for. Yank the crank and have keys cut into it.

I thought I may need to do that. I guess I may as well put in forged rods and pistons at that point as well. I only have 24k on the car so I should be able to just hone it and rebalance the rotating assembly. I don't really want to bore it unless I have to.

Nah Usually they clean up just fine at low milage. For a 8-71 car though I would go with a more forgiving 2618 slug over a 4032 alloy. Blower cars tend to knock a bit easier.

Who makes a good 2618 piston?

I'll probably end up going with Wiseco. I've always used them in my dirtbikes and VW's.

Wow! Was that using ATI's fixture that places the pin parallel to the crank along the seam, or one of the fixtures that places the pin radially? That makes me glad I had Racer7088 cut keyways in my crank.

I'm also questioning the veracity of an 871 on a modern EFI motor. You mostly see those on chromed out show queens. The forthcoming Eaton AVS blower or a nice Whipple will make more torque than most chassis can handle with a fraction of the heat.

I know BDS and Littlefield both offer more efficient rotors than what was available in years past.

I know it's not the most efficient way of getting power, but you can't argue with the instant torque of a roots along with the "Mad Max" look and whine. I'm not building an all out race car. I'm building a car that when I drive it I get an instant SEG whether I'm idling down the road or getting sideways going strait.:devil[3]:

Yeah someone else did the pinning. The BOV was non functional on the blower. I am going to put on a sprag pulley to help with the problem and put on a BOV.
